Key Responsibilities:
– Operate various vehicle types, including Front End, Roll Off, Residential, and others, to collect solid waste, yard waste, and recyclables on designated routes.
– Conduct pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections, complete daily truck reports, route sheets, and other documentation as required.
– Communicate mechanical issues promptly to mechanics and supervisors.
– Follow safety standards, equipment checks, and all relevant federal, state/provincial, local, and company rules.
– Maintain a clean vehicle by regularly cleaning the cab interior and exterior.
– Adhere to all applicable laws, regulations, ordinances, and company policies.
– Wear required personal protective equipment at all times.
– Report accidents or incidents to supervisors immediately.
– Demonstrate a professional demeanor and appearance when interacting with customers or the public.
– Maintain accurate records of services performed.
– Perform extra or special pick-ups as needed.
– Conduct route observations, document findings, and provide reports to immediate supervisors.
Requirements:
– High school diploma or GED desired.
– Valid Commercial Driver’s License (DZ or above).
– Minimum one (1) year of commercial driving experience OR CDL school certificate is an asset.
– Must meet safety criteria for relevant functions according to company standards.
– Demonstrated ability to safely drive the truck and operate equipment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
– Knowledge of truck components and basic maintenance for safe operation.
– Ability to maneuver the truck in tight spaces, use mirrors for backing distances of 120 feet or more.
– Recognize unacceptable waste materials.
– Effective communication with internal and external customers.
– Reading, writing, and comprehension of associated documents and maps.
– Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
– Physical strength to lift, push, pull, or carry objects up to 50 pounds using proper techniques.
– Adherence to all company safety policies and procedures.
Physical/Mental Demands:
– Ability to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, climb, balance, and smell.
– Visual requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
– Regularly lift/move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift/move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift/move up to 100 pounds.
– Sitting required 75% of the time due to the primary function of driving.
– Work in usually loud conditions.
Working Conditions:
– Exposure to loud noise, humidity, rainy/stormy, extreme hot and cold weather conditions.
– Exposure to moving mechanical parts, vibration, toxic and caustic chemicals, fumes, and airborne particles.
– Work in an outdoor environment up to 100% of the time.
– Continuous work away from the branch location throughout the day.
– Occasional work in high precarious places.
– Constant exposure to motor vehicle traffic conditions.
